I am one of the Skippers of the Mothership Project, which supports parenting artists in their development, and encourages arts organisations to make the art world more inclusive for artists with children. On a Mothership residency in IMMA in 2017, I developed a ‘fabric slide show’. these slides have allowed me to have conversations about my interests using my own visuals in an intimate settings without the distance caused by projection and presentation. Employing fabric slides has allowed me to talk about technology, society, parenting and special needs often addressing hard subjects with colourful playful images in a range of settings from conferences to kitchens. Working in fabric allows for a stop-and-drop art practice, which evolved when I had children. As women the world over know, a benefit to working with fabric is that one can talk while sewing.
